Founded in early 2019 by Sally Birch, Piggi International emanates responsible and sustainable fashion. Looking for a new and meaningful creative pursuit after the loss of her mother in 2018, she set about creating an online business which combined her love of all things silk, vintage scarves (especially Hermès), a passion for sewing and Piggi International was born.
The name “Piggi” came from her mother’s nickname for her pigtails when she was growing up. “My mother would have had me in pigtails till I was 21 if she had of had her way!” Sally recalls.
Sally sources vintage scarves and rare silk fabrics from around the world and transforms them into gorgeous headbands, scrunchies, clutches and cushions. “I think one of the things that resonates most with people is the fact that these treasures are made from recycled scarves. The notion of responsible fashion and re-purposing is the foundation of what I am doing. Some of the scarves have had a hard time, you name it rips, pen marks, stains, but there is still life left in them when you cut around the flaws and transform them into something beautiful. They are worth saving.”
Being fortunate enough to combine her love of vintage silk scarves, fabrics, accessories, sewing, creating and making is truly a joy for Sally and is the heart of what Piggi stands for. Her customers keep coming back for more of her creations and if you ask Sally, her customers’ feedback is what makes it worth it.
