We wanted to know more about the designer behind Australian Made brand Junior Blvd.
Meet Louise Sykes, the creator of the label on everyone's lips.
Can you describe JB in a few words?
A fun creative experience. Unique, quality made clothing that is both comfortable to wear and gorgeous to look at.
Who do you look at for inspiration?
I get inspiration from colours in general. I love looking at books like Multicolour by Viction:ary and everyday items that jump out at me. I remember once stopping to take a photo of a Christmas Tree ornament in a shop window that was so colourful ... that's what excites me and sets off my creativity. Once I have that image in my mind it just snowballs.
As for other designers, I have always loved and respected Ralph Lauren. He is a creative genius and is so much more than a clothing designer, he has created an entire way of life.
Ambition or Talent? Which is more important to success?
Oh good one! I think it actually takes a combination of both. Without ambition your talent can only go so far and vice versa. It's also important to not give up when things don't go your way. I had many many no's before I had that one yes so I don't see JB as a lucky break, I see it as years and years of not being able to tame that fire inside to constantly create but never really finding the right place for it to fit into the world.
Lastly, where do you hope to see JB in 5 years time?
In stores around the world. We launched not long before we all experienced lockdown and that dramatically changed everything. We have been incredibly lucky that people have not only found us on social media but have been so supportive and encouraging of our brand. I think our vibe is also a positive one which the world needs more of at the moment so it has been a pleasure meeting so many people that are enjoying our little creative wonderland.
