June lives in the spectacular Blackdown Hills in Somerset where her studio is based. Her ceramic adventure began about 9 years ago after quite a few years exploring other creative paths.
With a chance finding of a Pottery course at a nearby college learning the basics of how to throw bowls, she started in the September on a 3 hour a week course and by Christmas the kiln and Potters Wheel had been purchased, she was hooked.
Teaching herself everything she needed to know and a few mistakes along the way, her style and confidence have gradually developed.
"It takes a long time to find what it is that you actually want to be making" she says. Each piece is made by June herself and starts off as a slab, she builds small and large decorative functional and non-functional pieces in simple forms which offer clean lines that lend themselves perfectly for her beautiful detailed relief style of work.
Many hours can be spent on the decoration process, making each piece individual. Once finished, minimal glaze and oxides are used to enhance the design giving an organic feel almost like velvet to touch.
Her business is small and exclusive, her website shows beautiful artistic ceramics that will enhance any home that are all made to order for the customer also selling from her small but well stocked studio she welcomes visitors by appointment.
Junes Ethos is "Make what you like and enjoy what you make" This in turn keeps my work both fresh and exciting.
