Eclect Design is an exciting interiors boutique selling an eclectic range of design-led home accessories with a Scandinavian or Midcentury influence.
The owner, Janette Reid tells us what inspired her to create Eclect Design, and the concept behind it.
My interest in interior design was sparked when I moved into my 1950’s London home. I wanted a modern Midcentury look to compliment the period of the house and quickly developed a mild obsession for the textiles, colours, and designs of the era. This grew into an interest in Scandinavian design and Interior Design in general.
When sourcing new products, I look for classic designs with a touch of originality. I also spend a lot of time looking for products that are creative or unique in some way, such as cushions and lampshades made with bold colourful fabrics, and tableware with hand drawn patterns and illustrations.
All of the products at Eclect Design are carefully selected. I really believe in supporting smaller designers and makers, particularly in the UK where there is a wealth of established and emerging talent, so many of the products come from small design studios and independent potteries. The only larger companies I source from are in Denmark and Sweden where the simplicity of classic Scandinavian design and the excellent quality of the materials make the products irresistible.
I only select products for the store that I would love to have in my own home, and not surprisingly my home is now bursting at the seams!
