Caroline Hands is a full time visual artist whose work feeds the heart and soul of all who witness it.
Working across a range of mediums; including painting, drawing, textile, batiks, felt-making, copper and enamel, mosaic, 3D, photography, book illustration and more, Caroline has a natural flair for creating things of beauty.
From a young age, Caroline drew and made shelters and sculptures out of products from the natural environment. After attending Art College in London in the 1960s, she pursued a mixed media course of her own after a groundbreaking start in fashion, making copper foil wigs amongst other things.
Inspired by her travels across Asia, she has captured a wealth of images from all over the world which now forms a large archive of visual material.
Much of her work is inspired by her visits to China, of which she has done many since 2006. Caroline says the generosity and kindness of her many Chinese friends and acquaintances has changed her life and fed her work enormously.
She also has worked a great deal in community arts in London and the West Midlands, helping nurture others within the artistic community to develop, while expanding her own horizons daily.
Her work explores the diversity and richness of different cultures, with a positive heartfelt message at the core of everything she creates. Her work is direct, passionate and full of movement.
Caroline is based in London, at the Thames-Side Studios, embracing the diverse, multicultural vibe of the big city and harnessing it to continue to evolve as an artist.
