Tell us about yourself
My name is Bea. I’m a heritage artist and architectural illustrator originally from the Rock of Gibraltar but now based in the romantic city of Amsterdam.
Why heritage?
My artwork celebrates cultural heritage. Our past informs our present. Heritage is something that connects us all and preserves and celebrates the legacy of those who came before.
The Japanese have a beautiful tradition called Kintsugi. Kintsugi is the repairing of broken objects with a glue mixed with gold. This makes the cracks more apparent and also increases the value of the object. Our cracks (and our experience) make us more beautiful and more valuable. In a similar thread, I believe that old buildings are of tremendous value to us as a society. I am particularly passionate about painting UNESCO World Heritage buildings. These buildings are beacons of culture and showcase the best in human creativity both then and now.
My colour scheme is inspired by 14th century Italian painter Giotto. The pastel tones are reminiscent of the vibrancy of the Mediterranean and bring a softness and vibrant light to my art. This softness and classic look contrasts with the bold, strong lines that make up each piece.
What do clients love most about your artwork?
From your childhood home, to the location of your honeymoon, to the first property you ever owned; the buildings around us hold special memories of moments with loved ones. From the smell of warm, salty summer breezes to the heat of the midday sun, my paintings evoke feelings of nostalgia and warmth in my clients. People trust me with creating artwork about some of the most important moments in their lives, something that I take very seriously. I love nothing more than helping others keep the memories of their special places alive through paintings.
Where can we see your artwork
I am lucky enough to have art collectors spread across the globe from the UK, Gibraltar, Madrid, Sweden, Amsterdam and the US to name a few. I’ve exhibited in a number of places ranging from the Catherine Best studio in Mayfair, London; the Club Financiero Genova in Madrid and various locations around Gibraltar.
