The Portsmouth Distillery is located at the fabulous ancient monument that is 18th Century Fort Cumberland, surrounded by the sea and centuries of naval history. This is the first distillery on Portsea Island since 1824. Starting a distillery from scratch, as you might imagine, is not an easy task. It has required real commitment and belief in their abilities and products. Through hard work and dedication, coupled with a passion and meticulous attention to detail, they have succeeded in giving Portsmouth a range of spirits it can rightly be proud of.
Fort Gin is made using three key botanicals that grow within the walls of the Fort - Gorse Flower, Elderflower and Sea Radish. When combined with twelve other carefully sourced botanicals, a delicious Gin emerges with layers of complexity. Enjoy the rich full floral bouquet, a silky smoothness on the palate and a hint of spice, finishing with a citrus, biscuity note.
Tudor Gin is made using botanicals that were documented to have been on board the Mary Rose when she sank in 1545. Dandelion, Hazelnut, Hemp Seeds and Cherry all combine to create a rich but refreshing gin with a glorious burst of cherry on the finish. A generous donation from each bottle sold goes directly back to The Mary Rose Trust, thereby helping secure the future of this important project.
