Rule Gin

Rule Gin started out as an idea thought up by Julie, who's ancestry is distilling and dates back to the 1700's when her forebearer Andrew Usher started blending Whisky which was perfected by his son, also Andrew.

This is also where the name Rule comes from as it is the name of the waters that ran through the last estate in the Borders before it was sold ending the era of Ushers in distilling.

Being (reasonably) young and with 3 kids in tow, we had our work cut out for us, especially as we are self taught distillers, but after careful planning and many drunk nights on other gins we knew we wanted to make a traditional, stripped back, premium spirit.

Finding ingredients that no one else had used was mind boggling but we finally chose our main signature flavour profile and set about sourcing the finest botanicals.

These include Juniper, Coriander Seed, Angelica Root, Liquorice, Orange Peel, Grains of Paradise, Pomelo and Cloudberry. The Pomelo is sourced in Vietnam and is a splice between grapefruit and lime which is perfect for the citrus notes, and the Cloudberry comes from a source in Scandinavia as it only grows in harsh, cold weather, its what gives our gin its distinct smoothness and sweetness.

We are open to the public and have a tasting bar for anyone that wants to drop in and have taste before they buy.

There is also a "Pop back" scheme where you can bring back your bottle and we will refill it for a discount on your purchase, we find this will help the economy and environment. And who doesn't love a discount !
