Lauren Forcella, a Northern California artist and former geologist has been called a translator for Mother Earth. She grew up extremely close to Nature, using it as a refuge during a tumultuous childhood where she spent long hours wandering hill and dale, creating her own “homes” in magical places, and playing her flute in the tops of the tallest trees.
A contemporary impressionist and painter for 25 years, Lauren Forcella is still deeply connected to Nature and is grateful to be able to translate the emotional quality, or what some call, the “super-reality” of Nature onto canvas. She uses generous amounts of paint and vivid impasto brushwork in the very challenging style called alla prima, or premier coup, where the work is done wet on wet, each generous stroke of the painting intended to be part of the final statement. There is no retouching or overpainting after a layer has dried. The effect is fresh, immediate and direct.
E.O. Wilson, the famous biologist said the experience offered by Nature is “richer than even the human imagination.” This, Lauren Forcella believes, is the key to why her paintings are both intensely soothing and intensely stimulating. Like Nature, her paintings stimulate the imagination, providing both refuge and light.
Lauren Forcella’s work has been seen in British Vogue, British GQ, Conde Nast Traveller, World of Interiors, London Life, Tatler, House of Coco, and more.
