Frankie Creith was born in Northern Ireland. She grew up in the countryside near the small North Antrim town of Bushmills, famous for housing the world’s oldest licensed distillery, its ‘Black Bush’ whiskey and location adjacent to UNESCO World Heritage site, the ‘Giant’s Causeway’.
Frankie’s work has been published, televised, exhibited internationally and held in private and public collections worldwide including the permanent Textile Collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum London, home to the world’s largest compilation of Applied and Decorative Art.
A graduate of the University of Ulster Belfast 1989, Frankie spent several years travelling before embarking on self-employment as ‘Artist in Residence’ for the Education Authority and Arts Council of Northern Ireland. During this 20 year period she continued her own creative practice, gaining representation by various galleries and engaging in an extensive exhibition programme for her work.
She is best known for her ‘Mixed-media Textile’ works which incorporate a range of fabrics, papers, paint, wax and ink where layers of mixed-media are fused together prior to embellishing with free machine and hand stitch.
Responding to the local environment and picturesque landscape rich in colour, texture and cultural heritage of her beloved North Antrim coast, inspires her current work in acrylics, oils, cold wax and fibres. Creating a sense of place and atmosphere underpin her artworks where focus on colour and texture play a key role.
Today Frankie lives with her husband, two children and golden cocker spaniel in the seaside peninsula town of Portrush. She loves to encourage others in the development of their own creativity and offers a range of workshops from her studio gallery located on the Main Street.
Her work may be viewed and purchased via her gallery, website and the Eakin Gallery in Belfast.
