Arthur Meehan’s work and life are one and the same. Neither follow movements or expectations but follow Their own path informed by each previous step.
All of his images have a feeling of having been sculpted from the shadows as he works his way, with few tools, with what little light he finds and thoughtful craftsmanship to the images he sees. In his work there is a rare honesty combined with a love of uncluttered natural beauty, which inspires reflection beyond the surface of the work.
Arthur’s journey is through the heart and what he learns on the way is presented to us in emotional and raw picture spaces giving us a glimpse of a naked heart.
Arthur Meehan was born in New Jersey and studied at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in Manhattan, New York City - widely considered to be one of the leading art schools in the United States.
His artistic heroes are the sculptor Rodin and photographer Edward Weston. Arthur is inspired by natural beauty - pure and unadorned as nature intended and this informs his beautiful studies.
