Mary Synnøve Kvilhaug is an artist living and working on the island of Karmøy in Norway. Since she was a child she has been drawn to creativity. Her passion for drawing and painting started in early childhood and she got back to art and painting a few years ago.
Her favourite mediums are acrylics and watercolour. But she will sometimes use oils, mixed media and pastels. Her paintings are her meditative space, a place to escape and dream. A place to evolve and grow.
Mary is inspired by the beauty of nature around her, the light and the sky, coastlines, seascapes, flowers and happy memories from her childhood. Most of her works are deeply influenced and inspired by the seascapes and landscapes where she lives. Some are influenced by places she has visited.
Quite a few artworks are inspired by her beautiful coastal garden. Flowers have always been important in her life, a source of inspiration and joy. It brings back memories from her father’s beautiful garden filled with lovely flowers and trees. It was a magical place for a child to live and play, surrounded by amazing flowers and foliage, colours and fragrance.
Having a coastal garden and using it as a source of inspiration for art brings glimpses of childhood back. Pieces of treasure frozen in time. It celebrates beautiful memories and the abundance that nature continues to give.
Mary adores the ocean and the sky. The way it endlessly changes. The universal energy of nature. The sense of serenity, the sense of complete freedom it brings to spend time close to the ocean.
She hopes her art creates moments where people feel connected to nature and the magic of it all. Her hope is that her art brings people beauty, good memories and peace of mind.
