For nearly five decades, Alexiou + Associates has shaped the architectural landscape of The Bahamas, producing distinctive environments that honour context, culture, and the rhythms of island life. From intimate waterfront residences to international airports, the Nassau-based firm operates with a consistent sensibility: architecture as a lens through which daily life unfolds against land and seascape.
Founded in the late 1970s by Michael Alexiou and now led by architect Conway Smith, the firm moves seamlessly between scales and typologies—private homes, residential estates, luxury hospitality destinations, financial institutions, and national infrastructure. Each project begins with a simple question: how might life unfold here?
The firm’s integrated approach extends beyond architecture into interiors, planning, visualisation, branding, and strategic design, allowing the team to shape environments holistically from concept through completion. Composed of architects and designers forged by international experience, and supported by a global network of consultants and collaborators, Alexiou + Associates delivers work that is both internationally informed and deeply rooted in place.
Across the archipelago, the firm’s projects are defined by a quiet clarity—generous verandas tempering subtropical heat, breezeways inviting prevailing winds, and carefully composed openings transforming sea and sky into architecture.
Current work includes two international airports under construction in Exuma and Eleuthera, alongside residential and commercial commissions that continue to expand what Bahamian architecture can be.
