Yves Klein Blue All The Way

First we had Millennial Pink, now it's the dark hue of Yves Klein Blue. The deep tone is emerging as one of the defining colours in contemporary design.

Once largely associated with fashion, art and hospitality spaces, dark blue is increasingly appearing in homes through statement joinery, rich textiles, lacquered finishes and curated accents that bring depth, character and sophistication to interiors.

Interior designer Erik Munro recently embraced the trend in a thatched country home project, where Yves Klein Blue and inky cobalt tones feature in the guest bathroom. Set against timber flooring, marble, micro-cement and soft plaster finishes, the colour creates a contrast that feels both contemporary and timeless.

The move towards deeper blues has also been seen by wallpaper and fabric designers from Meredith House whose collections draw on memories of childhood summers in Burgundy. Rich blue tones sit alongside vibrant colours and lively patterns create interiors that feel elegant, layered and full of personality.
