Thumbs-Up for Innovative Mansions in Pimlico

A contemporary and innovative mansion block development in Pimlico has been given the green light, following a successful planning appeal, reports Abode2 luxury property magazine. MATT Architecture’s designs for Vitcorp Ltd will deliver a mix of residential, retail and office space on Wilton Road, near Victoria Station.

The series of four mansion blocks has been on the cards for around five years, with Westminster Council rejecting the scheme in 2020. Now, however, a planning inspector has ruled that it would “attain an exemplary standard of design”, and should go ahead.

The new buildings are “exactly the sort of thing Prince Charles has been calling for over the last few years,” say the architects, highlighting how a hybrid steel and Cross Laminated Timber structural system promises to sequester 1,500 tons of carbon through its construction.

The scheme will rise to a maximum of six storeys, delivering commercial space alongside five residential flats with balconies. Apartments will occupy the first to third floors, on the corner of Wilton Road and Gillingham Row.

Vitcorp is a family office with real estate projects in Shoreditch, Berlin and Frankfurt. The company is based on Vauxhall Bridge Road, just round the corner from the Wilton Road mansion block scheme.

MATT was set up in 2011 by Matt White, who previously worked for Foster & Partners in Hong Kong, and then stepped up to become Principal of Make Architects’ Abu Dhabi and Dubai offices. Operating out of offices on Leicester Square, the practice has been behind an array of projects ranging from The Baltic Exchange and Number One Wimbledon.
