McLundie Architects are synonymous with high-end architectural design projects. Sally Munro spoke to founder, Colin McLundie about creating unique residences throughout Spain and Gibraltar

“Good design is at the heart of what we do,” says Mclundie Architects founder Colin McLundie, who arrived in Gibraltar in 1986 to establish an architectural practice and then subsequently one in Spain in 1991.

With over 30 years’ experience in Southern Spain, the team are able to help clients through what can sometimes be a confusing maze of Spanish bureaucracy, making the journey from concept to reality seamless and inclusive.

Colin explains: “Every project is unique and, as most clients don’t reside permanently in Spain, we are their eyes and ears on the ground, dealing with all touch point essentials including advice on land purchase right through to putting those all important ­ finishing touches to the property before the client moves in.

The company has a dedicated and highly experienced team of multilingual architects, technical architects, project managers and interior designers, who are variously fluent in Spanish, English and German, providing a single point of contact for clients. An initial consultation is always given freely and unconditionally, whether that be on planning and building regulations or initial sketch ideas, so that clients make the right decision without feeling pressurised.

McLundie Architects invest a great deal of time talking with clients to develop the project brief and to gauge what the owners enjoy doing, how they like to live, and what their aspirations are.

The company also ensures that they instil rigorous cost control, project management and detailed on-site construction management, so they can produce exceptional design - on time and within budget.

The practice enjoys fruitful relationships with both individual clients and developers, many of whom are repeat clients, where the same management and commercial awareness is brought to bear.
