Tanglin Trust School proudly hosted Singapore’s first Aspiring Medics Conference on 20 September, welcoming 260 students from 45 schools. The event aimed to inspire the next generation of healthcare leaders, from doctors and researchers to public health professionals and medical entrepreneurs.
Keynote speakers included Dr Bogdan Chiva Giurca, Emergency Doctor and Global Director at the National Academy of Social Prescribing, Dr Michael Dixon, the King’s Doctor, Dr Jonty Heaversedge (National Healthcare Group), Dr Isaac Chay (Republic of Singapore Air Force), and Dr Mark Kristiansen (UCL Genomics). They shared their journeys, emphasising humility, resilience, and service in medicine.
Afternoon workshops offered hands-on experiences in clinical skills, genomics, medical entrepreneurship, and ethics, guided by experts including Dr Oliver Rushton, Dr Diego Marin, Dr Rachel Howard, and student leaders from UCL, NUS, NTU, and Harvard. Students also heard from a panel reflecting on early engagement, leadership, and pathways into medicine.
Student lead Zyra K. highlighted the opportunity to develop organisational, communication, and leadership skills while helping deliver a transformative experience. The conference combined expert guidance, practical learning, and student initiative, establishing a lasting platform for aspiring medics in Singapore.
