Rookery House

When developer, Cameron Homes gained permission to renovate the Grade II listed, Rookery House in Erdington, Birmingham they looked to White Crow Studios to help them bring the development back to life.

Three CGI illustrations of the existing property were commissioned alongside ten housetype CGIs, two street scenes and animation for the 40 new homes included on the site.

White Crow love working on character properties like Rookery House. Although Rookery House is an existing building, White Crow were able to work off 2D architectural plans to recreate the existing elements as well as visualising the new architectural detailing.

Rookery House was built in 1727 for industrialist Abraham Spooner and was at one time home to leading anti-slavery campaigner William Wilberforce. He married Abraham’s granddaughter Barbara.

It eventually became Erdington Town Hall before the district was merged into Birmingham just over 100 years ago. The city council used it as a social services office until 2008 when it became too unsafe.

As well as the conversion of the house, which stands in Rookery Park, the proposal included the demolition of a stable block and other buildings on the attached former road works depot site to clear the way for 40 new homes.

White Crow Studios knew that something special was required to do justice to this prestigious, historic building.  When it came to the animation especially, we wanted to present an element of drama and evoke the atmosphere of the original building. Time lapse photography was utilized together with CGI to create a sense of drama for the animated sequences.

Cameron Homes have since commissioned an interior CGI image for Rookery House to complete their sales package for the scheme. The CGI images produced have already proved successful with Cameron Homes able to secure off plan sales before any of the show homes are complete.

The animations produced for this site have been especially effective on social media, providing valuable content for Cameron’s marketing team to publish on Instagram and Facebook.
