Abode2 visits a stately, mock Tudor mansion in Knightsbridge as it’s launced onto the lettings market

The towering, seven-bedroom terraced townhouse is situated on Herbert Crescent within the Knightsbridge golden residential triangle of Sloane Street, Brompton Road and Pont Street, and is adjacent to the world-famous department store Harrods, and is now available to rent for £16,500 per week with DEXTERS.

The prestigious Herbert Crescent, one of the most desirable addresses in the world, runs into Hans Place where Jane Austen lived overlooking the private London square garden. Covering 5,961 square feet, the property was built in the Victorian era, in the 1890s, in mock Tudor style, as depicted by its black timber frame that renders the second floor and the pitched gables at the top of the house. The rest of the red brick home showcases the very best of Victorian architecture with its prominent bay windows and decorative wrought iron balconies. The tall, twisted brick chimney stacks are a signature flourish from the Arts & Crafts design movement which ran from 1880 to 1920.

DEXTERS is letting the historic property, which has been transformed internally into a thoroughly modern family home, for £16,500 per week / £71,500 per month, the most expensive rental advertised on the property portals within a mile of the centre of Knightsbridge.

Behind uniform wrought iron railings are wide stone steps leading up to the private front door – a rarity in central London. Residents and visitors enter the house at the ground floor level into a grand and welcoming hallway with a sweeping staircase, stained glass windows and Venetian chandelier.

To the left is a vast dining room with a large bay window at the front, traditional coving with modern decor and silk Chinoiserie wallpaper. The drawing room to the right also overlooks the comings and goings of Herbert Crescent. To the rear of the ground floor is the garden room which opens onto the patio.

Up the grand wooden staircase is the drawing room with French doors that lead  onto a decorative balcony and a study at the back. The entire second floor consists of a principal bedroom suite with contemporary but subtle lighting around the ceiling. The en-suite has marble walls and there's a dressing room. There are five further bedrooms with two en-suite bathrooms and four separate bathrooms on the upper two levels.

On the lower ground floor, there is a swimming pool with a steam room and an outside space. The pool ceiling emulates the same lighting as the principal bedroom, giving the whole vast house a sense of connection. There is also a cinema or family room on that level.

Elinor Ward, Director of DEXTERS South Kensington and Knightsbridge, commented: "It is extremely rare in Knightsbridge to find a full townhouse with period features not just preserved but cherished over the last 130 years rather than the property being compartmentalised into multiple homes. Other significant features of this gem are the wellbeing suite in the basement and outside space, that has its own private entrance. All of these traits have become exceedingly important in the mind of tenants in central London over the course of the pandemic,"

Herbert Crescent is a prestigious street near Harrods department store. Close to all the shops and restaurants on Brompton Road, including Marks and Spencer's, Paul’s Bakery and Zuma restaurant. The closest underground station is Knightsbridge (0.19 miles).

This property is available to view and let through DEXTERS for £16,500 per week / £71,500 per month.
