This penthouse in Hamburg‘s new neighbourhood "Hafencity“, is one of its largest. With a few hundred square metres of living space, it offers generous space and magnificent views over city and harbour. Hamburg is Germany‘s second biggest city after Berlin and the epitome of elegance and understatement.
The clients asked Aimo Plus Interior Designers for a very discrete and neutral concept, made of cream tones and latte-macchiato tones. We also suggested alternatives so that the clients could select what they really wanted, something in tune with their colourful lifestyle.
We were thrilled when they agreed to our alternative proposal to add to their cream and brown colour scheme a tone of lively rust. The building itself appears to have a facade of rust tones and cream-whites reminiscent of stacked ship containers. A vivid picture in front of the still used shipping container represents Hamburg‘s container harbour.
We also suggested Tineo wood and Indian apple tree accents, and spoke to them about the genius loci concept. Pleasingly, they loved this idea as well. Especially as they own not only the penthouse but the building too. www.vanmeer-hamburg.de
The name "Indian Apple Tree" is misleading with regards to the origins of this approximately 25-metre-high deciduous tree. Maybe the name hails from the time when European conquerors thought they had discovered the sea route to India, but its origins are actually in Chile and Argentina. The wood is characterised by its vivid range of colours spanning between sapwood and heartwood. The reddish-brown clay is clearly marked by black stripes, making it the perfect mixture of colourful expression combined with slim stripe elegance.
The apartment itself has been equipped with smart-home technology that controls simply everything – from heating and air-conditioning to music and other multimedia, as well as the alarm and CCTV systems. The property even boasts an 80 square metre Kaleidescape private cinema system.
