The highly anticipated penthouse of the iconic and world-renowned Bosco Verticale has finally been unveiled, with an exclusive interior concept created by international designer Dara Huang of Design Haus Liberty, in partnership with Italian Studio, COIMA Image, led by Alida Catella.
What is so special about this property?
Dara - This property is so unique. Not only is it a globally iconic landmark, it’s really a one of a kind as a space - it was such an exciting project to be a part of. The sheer scale of it is incredible - it takes up the entire top floor of the building, well over 5,000 sqft. The main thing that caught my attention, apart from the size of course, was the absolutely breath taking 360 far reaching views of Milan and beyond, right out to the Duomo spires on one side and the mountains on the other. It’s so rare for Milan being a largely low-rise city. Obviously, I can’t not mention the exterior of the property which is extraordinary in itself, and a stunning representation of biophilic design. The abundance of floral planting and green vegetation is so distinctive and something I had never seen in so much glory before.
What inspired the interior design for the penthouse?
Alida -The exterior of the vertical forest building was a significant inspiration, of course, and the way nature envelopes every outlook from the property. When choosing the design, we looked to draw as much of this greenery into the property as possible making focal points of the vast windows which are framed by the building’s shrubs, trees and the colour palettes throughout the home were also influenced by the seasonal changes of the facade – from subtle hues of spring to abundant greens of summer through to the rich tones of autumn. Dara -The interiors also bring together the classic elegance, craftsmanship and materials of Italian design with contemporary global influences, in particular hotel-style luxury with its grand statements and dream-like spaces, but with an all-important comfortable twist.
Were there any challenges?
Alida - Absolutely, the pure size of the property was the main challenge – there was so much interior space to work with, magnified by the incredibly high ceilings throughout the penthouse! This was a great chance to seize though, as a designer it allowed for a lot of creativity and freedom on how to really showcase these huge luxury spaces.
Who is it designed for?
Dara - It’s hard to pinpoint a particular type of owner for this property. Milan is now such a global city it attracts a broad range of buyers from London to Hong Kong. So, I guess it could easily be for a family – for some reason that’s how I always pictured it - but also an aspirational couple who prioritise well-being and are environmentally driven when considering their purchasing and living choices.
