Colonial Paradise


As one of the Caribbean’s most exclusive and elite communities, Lyford Cay is a gated enclave on the western tip of New Providence Island in the Bahamas. An old-world style paradise that has attracted global leaders, aristocrats, business magnates, billionaires and celebrities for over half a century, Lyford Cay boasts a British colonial feel, with the elegance of Palm Beach in the 1960’s and 70s.

Whilst Lyford Cay is located on one of the most popular destination islands in the Caribbean, it maintains a strong sense of privacy - situated away from the primary tourist draws of Nassau and Paradise Island.

Spanning across 1,000 gated acres, Lyford Cay comprises over 300 luxury residential properties anchored around an exclusive clubhouse – so exclusive that not even being a resident guarantees entry.

Additional world class amenities include an 18-hole golf course, private beaches, twelve tennis courses, a yacht club and marina, a private school, water sports and a plethora of world class dining experiences.

Lyford Cay also holds the title as the oldest master-planned community in the Bahamas. Its name derives from Captain William Lyford Jr., who was awarded the land by Royal Decree from King George III in 1788. The modern history of the island began in 1954, when Bahamian developer Sir Harold Christie sold the 2,800-acre parcel of land to Canadian businessman E. P. Taylor. Trained as an engineer and a successful developer, Taylor enacted his vision to transform what was then dirt roads and swamps.

As one can imagine, the property market in Lyford Cay is extremely active and without a huge amount of inventory - buyers will need deep pockets.

The developer, Mr. Taylor, targeted wealthy Canadians to purchase and build winter residences in Lyford Cay. The community and Club turned into a location for wealthy families from North America, South America and Europe seeking a warm place to visit during the winter months. Lyford Cay has developed and now has 465 front doors, approximately 60 of those front doors are apartment. About 30% of the residences are occupied year-round while the other 70% are used as vacation homes.

Apartments range in value from $1,000,000 to $6,000,000.
