No matter what time of year or what your snow sport of choice is, Chamonix is the place to be. Adam Honey, the founder of Chamonix Ski Chalets, explains why.
If you enjoy skiing or snowboarding then Chamonix France should be a deluxe dual season destination to add to your bucket list. Chamonix attracts skiers but also mountain bikers, mountaineers and hikers, as it offers a great location for outdoors activities year round making it an attractive prospect for home buyers as well as visitors.
Chamonix - known as Cham to ski aficionados - is one of the worlds most renowned ski resorts, combining five separate ski areas, with two of them directly linked. With a low lying valley and ski lifts rising to more than 3000m, there are plenty of vertical descents for thrill seeking skiers. Chamonix also has the added draw of some hair-raising off-piste skiing, which has a challenging allure for adventurous skiers.
It is dominated by Western Europe’s highest mountain, the Mont Blanc. This means that it is ideal for extreme skiing, ice climbing and paragliding, and has been nicknamed the ‘death sport capital of the world’. But don’t let that put you off, as people visiting Chamonix really know how to let off steam after an epic day traversing the Cham lines.
Après Ski in Chamonix
Chamonix has the well-deserved reputation of being one of the premier skiing destinations worldwide, and this also goes for its après ski nightlife. While it is a fairly large town, there is nothing twee or touristy about it. It offers many bars at the base of all the different ski areas as well as a lively town centre.
