Award-winning interior designer Nicky Dobree, reveals her favourite home and away haunts to Abode2.
When I travel, I’m never without?
My iPhone. It’s hard to think of going anywhere without it. It keeps me connected with my family and enables me to run my business wherever I happen to be.
City pad or country pile?
Both. The city is vibrant and full of energy. It’s where my studio is, but my chalet in the Alps is where I retreat to, to relax and unwind. There’s something deeply restorative about being outdoors and close to nature. It feeds the soul and enhances wellbeing.
Preferred hangout close to home?
Opposite my studio is Kallouk and Taylor, a gorgeous, little Moroccan café at the heart of our local community. The food is simple but delicious and in the warmer weather, there’s nothing nicer than relaxing al fresco with a chilled glass of wine. You feel as if you’re on holiday.
Best global getaway for design inspiration?
Travel is a constant source of inspiration. I cannot get enough of it. I’m fortunate to have grown up travelling the world and I continue to do so both with work and for pleasure.
Favourite season?
Autumn is wonderful for the earthy colours and winter for the crisp air and the snow, but summer is just the best for the warmth of the sun on my skin and the predominantly blue skies.
What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
Be true to yourself and don’t be afraid to fail.
