A Royal Connection

05.05.23

Home sweet HRH home, many of London’s most exciting and fascinating properties have a connection to royal provenance. Whether it’s a home fit for a king, a home for the world’s grandest and most prestigious jewels, or a place that kept the Royal Households going, we’ve roundup some of London’s best Royal Connections.

Lights on at Buckingham Palace

The Grade II* Listed Battersea Power Station, now the centrepiece of one of central London’s largest, most visionary and eagerly anticipated new developments, used to supply electricity to some of London’s most recognisable landmarks, including Buckingham Palace.

In April 1946, a young Princess Elizabeth and her Grandmother Queen Mary, were shown around the Power Station and Control Room A, which managed the distribution of power generated by the Power Station’s turbines.

More recently, Princess Anne visited in 2017 to attend a Commonwealth Leaders event to find out more about the 42-acre riverside redevelopment, and in June 2018 the Duke of Gloucester visited Battersea Power Station to find out about a new education and training project.

Not only is this iconic building – which once served one fifth of London’s electricity -  home to some of London’s best places to eat, drink and entertain, buyers also have an opportunity to own a home in this London landmark. Apartments within the Power Station celebrate the building’s historical features, whilst introducing a contemporary finish. Exposed brickwork and original steelwork characterise many of the properties, with purchasers able to choose between two interior design pallettes – Heritage 33 and Heritage 47 – each inspired by the 1930s and 1950s respectively, when major elements of the Power Station were completed.

The Coronation ground for Saxon Kings

First recorded in a Royal Charter in 838, the medieval market town of Kingston is Britain’s oldest Borough, host to a regal history that includes the coronation of as many as seven Saxon Kings. Even the name Kingston itself, derived from the phrase Cyningestun - meaning royal estate, is steeped in a magnificent history. Its close proximity to Hampton Court Palace and surrounding green expanses of Richmond and Royal Bushy Park render Kingston fit for a Queen or King.

As celebrations for the King’s Coronation get underway, Royal Exchange Kingston(www.royalexchangekingston.com) is home to a collection of new homes, and as Kingston cements itself as London’s 3rd largest and most popular high street and shopping district, is one of the capital’s most exclusive and desirable places to live. Set around the Grade II listed Old Post Office and Telephone Exchange, and with wellness at its core, Royal Exchange is an exciting new extension of the popular riverside town centre, comprising new homes, and a landscaped piazza which offers a unique mix of shops, restaurants and flexible workspaces for all to enjoy.

A final collection of two and three bedroom properties are available to purchase at Royal Exchange Kingston. These high specification homes will sit alongside the beautiful Grade II listed Old Post Office and Telephone Exchange buildings and superb facilities, including a residents only gym, 24-hour concierge and screening room. Final homes are available at Royal Exchange with prices starting from £780,000 for a two bedroom apartment and homes in the latest phase, coined The Crown Collection, starting from £837,500.

Protecting The Crown

A World Heritage Site, fortress to the Crown Jewels, home to the legendary Yeoman Warders and ravens, and a fateful tower and burial ground for those unfortunate, including a Queen of England – The Tower of London’s colourful history is notable in protecting The Crown.

In May 1533, Anne Boleyn – King Henry VIII’s second of six wives - was escorted by river to the Tower of London where she prepared for her coronation in the royal apartments. Three years later, and an unprecedented event in Royal history, the infamous Queen was arrested and held prisoner within that same royal apartment before being found guilty of treason.

Moments from Tower Bridge and the Tower of London, London Dock (www.london-dock.co.uk) is an exciting new destination in the heart of Wapping – enjoying close proximity to the City and the River Thames. Offering a beautifully designed collection of Manhattan, one, two, and three bedroom contemporary homes, each apartment is delivered to a high specification and offers either a private balcony or terrace – perfect for your own royal wave.

London Dock boasts far reaching views of iconic landmarks, including The Tower of London

Enjoying a luxury lifestyle befitting of a King or Queen, residents have exclusive access to exceptional and exclusive hotel-style facilities at The Club, a bespoke leisure and wellness facility comprising a mix of luxury amenities and fitness facilities, including a swimming pool, physio and relaxation treatment rooms, and squash courts. Homes at London Dock are available from £760,000. For further information, please call 020 7971 7880 or email sales@londondock.co.uk

ELIZABETH LINE

Like many major transport connections, the Elizabeth Line is a wonderful reminder of the legacy Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has left on London.

One destination that picked up speed is Ealing, thanks to the introduction of this royally inspired line.

Filmworks (www.filmworks-ealing.co.uk) is fast becoming a thriving, mixed-use destination, located less than a ten minute walk from Ealing Broadway station. Entertainment venue and arcade Boom Battle Bar, artisan coffee shop Black Sheep Coffee, neighbourhood bar Teatro Hall, award-winning ramen restaurant Kanada-Ya and fried buttermilk chicken specialists Butchies are all forming part of its evolving leisure quarter.

More than 200 of the homes have now sold, with just four discount market homes available in partnership with the London Borough of Ealing.

In homage to the site’s history as the Forum Theatre, the restoration of Filmworks sensitively integrates many of the cinema’s original features with art deco and 1920s features throughout. Due care was taken to carefully repair the art deco frontage of the residential scheme, which was originally designed by John Stanley Beard, an English architect known for designing cinemas in and around London. This included restoring the eight iconic colonnades to create a grand entrance.
