A world record has been broken with the launch of the globe’s tallest hotel in Dubai.
Built by the Al Attar Group, The Gevora Hotel stands at 356 metres and has 528 rooms and is one metre taller than the previous record holder, the JW Mariott Marquis, also in Dubai. The 75-floor all-gold hotel is 50 metres taller than the Shard in London and 56 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower.
Dubai is no stranger to breaking records, as it is home to the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, which stands almost nine times higher than Big Ben 828 metres.
Within the hotel, there are luxury flourishes everywhere, with guests entering the building through revolving doors coated in solid gold. The highlight of the hotel is a 12th-floor health club with sauna and steam rooms, plus an outdoor pool deck with a hot tub, offering treatments with a view.
In terms of culinary offerings, there are five restaurants, including Gevora Kitchen, an all-day international buffet, Level Twelve, serving a Middle Eastern-inspired menu, and Highest View Restaurant which is located on the rooftop, where you can enjoy Arabic dishes and shisha.
Instead of a bar – the hotel does not have an alcohol license – there is a coffee and cake shop.
Gevora Hotel is located on Sheikh Zayed Road, on the doorstep of the Dubai Marina and a short drive away from The Palm, Dubai Mall and the World Trade Centre. Jairaj Gorsia, General Manager of Gevora Hotel, says: “It has been a passion project and finally we are ready to share our vision with the world. We have created a unique formula which raises four-star hospitality to new heights and look forward to offering unforgettable stays.”
The city-state, which is one of seven to make up the United Arab Emirates, is hoping to attract 20 million tourists every year by 2020. The desert city has multiple luxury resorts, beaches, a marina and several shopping malls. It also boasts an indoor ski resort.
