Mohamed Alabbar brings in superyacht designers to create luxury homes on Abu Dhabi’s Ramhan Island in a spectacular launch of a new $3.5 billion project off the coast of Abu Dhabi. The project, known as Ramhan Island will feature 1,800 beach villas, 1,000 branded residences, a hotel and marina. The Emaar founder and Americana chairman is developing it through his privately owned Eagle Hills development company.

Mohamed Alabbar’s Ramhan Island is using some of the world’s top superyacht designers to help create the interiors of homes on the mega development off the coast of Abu Dhabi.

Construction of the $3.5 billion project by Alabbar’s Eagle Hills company is now underway. Alabbar – who is also the founder of Emaar – says this latest project will take development “to another level” with superyacht designers being used on the residential project.

“There are a lot of great designers in the world, but no one can do the internal detailing of a home better than the designers of superyachts. They respect space, they respect light, they respect the value of every single square metre, but most of all, their minds are trained to think always about luxury. They only build the most luxurious things in the world. So, their detailing is like no normal place or home, nothing like this has ever been seen before. There will be nothing like this ever seen in the UAE or the region,” Alabbar says.

A total of eight different villa designs and layouts are being rolled out, varying in size from 2,862 square feet to 7,539 square feet. The smallest villas are listed at $1.743 million. Described as “natural, raw and untouched,” the already existing island is located 20 minutes from the shores of mainland Abu Dhabi.

“The key has been the creation of beauty. Just to have the chance to have an island with so much beauty, that put more pressure on me to create what I think is one of the most beautiful islands anywhere in the world,” Alabbar says.

“When you look at this island, the quality of the water, the quality of the sand, the dolphins, the turtles, the birds, it’s like a dream. It will be 1600 incredible homes on a private natural island. Every home will have its own beach, a super luxury hotel with residences on the marina, specialised F&B, the most advanced wellness centre, floating villas,” he added. It is expected that the first villas will be ready in three years’ time.
