Brook Security have been securing private homes for over 25 years. Abode2 caught up with Company Managing Director, Terry Roffey, to talk through how they keep clients feeling safe as houses.
What Security Solutions do Brook Security supply?
We design, install, maintain and monitor Electronic Security Systems comprising of Intruder and Hold Up Alarm Systems, CCTV and Intercom Access Systems.
We start with a preliminary visit to meet a prospective client. This survey visit is a fact-finding mission and a security risk assessment. Its paramount to find out what the client requires and sometimes they are not sure. I normally ask questions about lifestyle and how would the “Systems” be used and when (when the property is left unoccupied, overnight, when watching movies etc). Based on the information gathered, I will then carry out a “Security Risk Assessment” of the property and grounds.
Often the “Solution” is several layers of security including intercom and access control, CCTV surveillance cameras and intruder alarm systems covering all areas and buildings. Possibly followed up by personal attack alarms, external detection sensors with audio challenge speakers for live interaction. We also offer smoke fogging machines, to create ‘fog bariers’, safe rooms and key holding, guarding and police response.
But ultimately, bespoke tailored security solutions are the outcome of the process.
How do clients access the best Home Security Systems?
The solution will depend on what is the best fit for the client and how they intend to operate the “System”. This may mean selecting an external detection systems so they can move around the House freely, they may then choose to set the system when going to bed or when the house is left unoccupied.
Others may choose a perimeter system with sensors on windows and doors with back up internal movement sensors (some will require Pet Tolerant sensors for pets to move around).
I can think of one London client who was required to protect a painting by “Monet” 24/7 against theft. Where we used wireless technology as the solution. Similarly protecting high performance and classic cars would require Alarms and CCTV.
How has Home Security evolved in recent years?
The biggest advancement is the use of App technology. Alarm and intercom systems operated from the App. An App for the CCTV System to see in real time what is happening anywhere where there is a Camera fitted. Reviewing also what happened at a “Point in Time” sometimes funny incidents that have been captured or more sinister events to give evidence to the authorities.
Greater use of wireless technology for Intruder Alarm and Personal Attack Systems. And use of Radio and IP (Network) signaling communication equipment for “Remote Monitoring”.
Ultra HD quality CCTV 4K images being captured for live appraisal or review following an incident. There has also been an increase in the use of ‘Private Response’.
How are “Security Systems” maintained to ensure they are effective?
Like an “MOT” for your car “Systems” are normally regularly inspected to check that they are fully operational.
In addition to the planned technical inspections and preventative maintenance visits. There is 24/7 reactive engineering support for emergency situations where a fault may exist. Initially covered by phone or remote investigation (depending on technology) then in person if required. Ensuring that everything that can be done is done to maintain the integrity of security system and the safety of the family and their possessions.
