Lavish Sardinian Lifestyle

22.05.23

Home to verdant vineyards, ancient olive groves and sweet-scented fruit orchards, lies a unique estate of over 40 hectares, where the Sardinian terrain meets the sea. Julia Millen explored this majestic location to discover more.

Amidst the mountainous landscape and bright azure Sardinian coastline, lies an estate, like no other. With a residence positioned a stone’s throw from the calm Mediterranean Sea, the blend of natural flora and fauna set over 40 hectares, is truly unique. As the land is so expansive, it takes hours to walk around the serene setting. You can meander through the 550 tree-strong olive groves, absorbing the stunning panoramas and rugged landscapes that make up this beautiful location. With ancient walls winding through the landscapes and pretty wildflowers adorning the floor, you could be forgiven for thinking this unadulterated landscape has been untouched for centuries. With an abundance of organic fruit trees, bearing a range of citrus fruits; from oranges, lemons and grapefruit to over 80 cherry, pear, plum and prune trees, the air is rich with the scent of blossoms developing into a kaleidoscope of rich reds, bright oranges and zingy greens and yellows as the season changes.

The 100 almond and 39 fig trees that complete the organic orchard, ensure that the estate offers a wealth of delectable tastes for every palette. Additionally, the land is home to many varieties of Mediterranean plants, an extensive pine forest, and a 4-hectare vineyard with 6.000 Cannonau strains, 3.000 Cabernet Sauvignon strains and 300 Malavasia strains of the vine.Offering ultimate discretion to its inhabitants, this remote luxury estate can be easily reached by helicopter, just 15 minutes from Cagliari International Airport. Located on the marine protected areas of Capo Carbonara, on the longest coastline in Sardinia, the estate borders an almost private beach at the bay of Cuccureddus, aptly meaning ‘little hills’ and the seashore, that borders the land is nearly a mile in length. In total, three glorious beaches surround the estate.

The estate is located close to Villasimius, a tourist town situated on the southeast coast of Sardinia, where some of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean reside including the long beach of Simius, the beautiful Porto Giunco, the delightful Punta Molentis, Campus, Campulongu beaches and the enchanting Porto Sa Ruxi. This area of Sardinia is characterised by long white sandy beaches, hidden creeks, cliffs, gulfs, clear turquoise waters and is considered one of the most famous and valued places of Sardinia. A highly regarded golf club is also situated just 4km from the estate.

The property was designed by world-famous architect Antonio Citterio, notorious for his vision and idea of sustainability and the ability of facets to interact with each other and to stand the test of time, which feels very fitting. Antonio reflects: “When I think about design and what it represents today, the concept comes to mind of a new modernity, which could very pithily be summed up as ‘leaving an inheritance.’ It is an expression used to explain my approach to contemporary design. The idea is to operate by thinking that you are creating something that will be inherited by someone: an object that is able to create ‘memory,’ just as a building conceived for a given, non-ephemeral time span can reinforce the identity of a place.”

Minimal and balanced in design, the property has been designed to considerably reduce the presence of architecture on the beach. Whilst situated very close to the sea, the residence fuses the countryside and the sea with panoramic views of both. A whitewashed structure with corners softened by purposely imperfect treatment of plaster, the two-storey building incorporates outdoor space that is closely connected with the indoor distribution of space. The main villa is 450 square metres with 300 square metre terraces and 200 square metre patios and around 150 square metre space, that's ready to be refurbished. This would allow for the development of 4 bedrooms with private bathrooms, a kitchen and living room.

The residence also offers another unique facet, as it’s now no longer legally permitted to build houses so close to the shore, making this a one-of-a-kind opportunity to occupy a prime piece of coastal real estate.
