In an ever-changing world, feeling safe and secure is more important than ever, especially in our own homes. With this is mind Abode2 sat down with security specialist Simon Morgan, Director of Operations at Trojan Consultancy, to find more about him and his expertise.

How did you gain you expertise in security and why did you decide to use this to set up Trojan Consultancy?

I was a Police Officer in the Metropolitan Police Service for nearly 20 years. I served on the Territorial Support Group which is the public order unit, SO19 Force Firearms Command and finally SO14(2) Royalty Personal Protection, where I was a Protection Officer to Her Majesty the Queen and other senior members of the British Royal Family.

In 2011, I founded Trojan Consultancy, with the aim of taking my experience and knowledge of protecting the Royal Family and offering that level of professionalism, integrity and expertise to discerning Clients of wealth, visibility and status who require a security resource who are used to delivery at the very highest level. We offer a complete personalised approach to security from consultancy all the way through to provision. I am a member of several industry bodies, The Security Institute, The Association of Security Consultants and the Institute of Strategic Risk Management. My experience is peer reviewed and to maintain membership status I must continue my professional and academic development, which keeps current in the sector. Especially as security is constantly evolving and trying to stay ahead of the threat and risks we face.

How do you decide what residential security measures best suit your clients?

We take a very practical approach to residential security. The objective is to minimise the risk of undesired attention against the family and their home and possessions from ad-hoc criminality and Organised Crime Networks. We work through a process of asset, threat and vulnerability, identifying each element. During the initial assessment we look at the residence and how it works as a home. We consider the local geography and any impact factors that will affect the security options, including crime trends and law enforcement response times. We speak at length with the client so we can understand their lifestyle personally and professionally. Once all the information has been gathered and assessed, we create a bespoke package for consideration by the Client.

What is the biggest benefit to a bespoke security package?

It is all about the Client, the packages are designed around their individual and family needs. The specific threat and risk profiles and most importantly their expectations of how the security measures implemented will deliver complete peace of mind. The way we deliver security is a lifestyle choice and is presented as a workable lifestyle solution. One style does not fit all, we do not take a package off the shelf and shoehorn the Client into it. That is not how we work, because it simply doesn’t work for all concerned. The Client has to value what we do for them and we as professionals have to show value in what we do.

What is the most common issue you find with residential security and what is your advice on how to rectify it?

“It will not happen to me.”

That is the most common attitude we encounter. We look to educate Clients as to the risks they face. Using the principle of cause and effect, for both action and inaction. Communicating in plain language and using real world scenarios, that education process leads to an understanding from the Client. We do not seek to frighten people about the risk, because frightened people don’t make rationale decisions, education is the best way to achieve a successful, workable security solution for the Client.
