The Sabina Clubhouse is an amalgamation of all the design motifs that exist in the Blakstad Design Consultants arsenal. Filled with elegant natural light, bright open spaces, intimate corners and understated luxury, the Clubhouse is distinctly Ibicencan and unmistakeably Blakstad.
The brief – by property developer Anton Bilton – was to create a space within the collective of high-end homes that centred around community and connection. When completed, Sabina Estates will be made up of 50 luxury homes designed by internationally renowned architects, including John Pawson (CBE), Sir David Chipperfield, Marcio Kogan, Ami Szmelcman and Rick Joy, in addition to Ibiza’s finest local creatives including Rolf Blakstad.
In addition to six of the private homes, Blakstad designed the 1,485 square metre Clubhouse – the heart of the Sabina community. He was given complete artistic freedom to design a space that could once have been the ancient home of a Phoenician princess, and the result is nothing short of a fairytale.
Tall wooden doors reveal a stone staircase and a water feature at the Clubhouse entrance. The reception area flows into the circular bar, located elegantly beneath a classic Blakstad lightwell. To its left is a cluster of sofas and a wall of bookshelves by a fireplace. An adjacent lush, green courtyard is home to a centenarian olive tree, and alongside it is a hub of office spaces and meeting rooms. A sparkling swimming pool is framed by patios lined with white pillars supporting wood pergolas. An enormous Buddha – made up of hundreds of smaller Buddhas – has been placed at the end of the pool, before a dazzling, large quartz crystal, behind which the fragrant Ibiza pine forest rises.
While Ibiza is famed as a summer destination, Sabina celebrates its other incarnation – as a year-round family home. With this in mind, Blakstad created synergistic spaces to feel warm, and connect with other people in winter, or to relax and cool down, enjoy the sunshine, have lunch or dinner, and meet friends in the warmer months. The Clubhouse is also geared towards children, with an amphitheatre as the locale for outdoor cinema nights, hip-hop workshops, birthday parties and performances of all kinds. There’s a soft play area for the smaller children and there’s more fun for grown-ups too with a private nightclub, temperature-controlled wine cellar, smoking room, library, gym and spa. And this is just the beginning…
