Rising Star At The Television Centre

19.03.21

The lights have never stopped shinning at the London and Television icon that is the Television Centre. Now Abode2 turns the spotlight on to the up-and-coming interior designers, FARstudio, as they put their mark on this iconic building.

Television Centre is the reimagining of the former home of the BBC in West London. The completed first phase comprises 432 new homes, headquarter offices for Publicis Group, The White Company and Soho Works, and White City House - an outpost of private members’ club Soho House, complete with Electric cinema and 45 room hotel. The legacy of the BBC continues at the site with BBC Studioworks operating three television studios.

Paying homage to the rich cultural heritage of Television Centre, interior designer Franky Ridgeon, Founder of FARstudio, has expertly transformed one of the premium apartments, situated in the Grade-II listed Helios, into a colourful oasis.

Inspired by her experience working with British tastemakers Suzy Hoodless and Kit Kemp of Firmdale Hotels, Franky Ridgeon has created an aesthetic that combines the luxury of a boutique hotel with the comforts of a modern home. Applying creative elements synonymous with hospitality design has resulted in a striking selection of textiles and colour palettes throughout the three-bedroom duplex apartment.

For the bedrooms, bespoke headboards upholstered with timeless fabrics by Blithfield and Fermoie create a bold focal point, setting the tone of the room. The vibrant prints are in turn complemented by the smaller scale patterns for the cushions and tonal bedding, presenting a colourful yet calming look and feel. The neutral based palette of Rolling Fog by Little Greene in the fluted marble and walnut kitchen brings a deep warmth to the open-plan interior, which in turn reflects the crisp, architectural framework by Piercy&Company. Bolder colours come from the living area, where the inky tone of Juniper Ash by Little Greene creates an unexpected backdrop for the selection of paintings by Joseph Goody.

A key component of the space is the combination of indoor and outdoor elements. Plants are included throughout the interior adding greenery to the home – creating a positive atmosphere as Spring approaches. This combined with natural materials, including a carefully curated collection of wooden and woven baskets add an injection of character to the space. Focusing on traditional craftsmanship, the accessories and interiors work together harmoniously to provide a warm welcome to the apartment.

Franky Ridgeon of FARstudio commented: “Craft has become even more important to us, being able to see the process involved including the imperfections. People want to feel comfortable and at ease and it is the small details that we enjoy so much. I took great joy in sourcing the accessories for the apartment at Television Centre, such as the handmade lampshade by Rosi de Ruig, African artisanal baskets by Hadeda and cushions by Wicklewood.”

Helios Apartment 710 is one of five designs by architects Piercy&Company for the most premium apartments in the scheme: The Architects’ Series. The three-bedroom apartment sits over two floors, offering a dual aspect to the east and west and views of the London skyline beyond the Grade II listed Helios statue in the Television Centre courtyard.

Designed respectively by AHMM, Archer Humphreys, Coffey Architects, Haptic and Piercy&Company, The Architects’ Series each reflect the distinct aesthetics of these architects. The final collection of twelve premium and penthouse apartments are available to purchase from £2,995,000, via the appointed sales agents.

Helios Apartment 710 spans 2,202 square feet and is available to buy unfurnished for £3,350,000.
