As a response to overarching contemporary trends such as urbanisation, sustainability and open plan living spaces, a new approach to storage in the kitchen can also be noticed. Referring to the aesthetic efficiency in organising a variety of tools and functions, from hob to refrigerator, people seek out visual calm.
Kitchens are now more than ever the heart of the home the space needs to be both functional and with minimal effort transformed into a suitable environment for entertaining or casual relaxation. With a new design trend to quite simply rotate the oven and cooking appliances 90degrees and integrate them onto the end of a kitchen run of tall cabinetry. The effect leaves the kitchen feeling more like fitted furniture than having the lines disturbed by utilitarian appliances such as microwaves, ovens and steam cookers.
An increasing requirement is to build furniture to take full advantage of the height of the architecture within the home, using every inch of the space efficiently. Floor to ceiling units can be used as pantries and housing units for integrated appliances to be stacked on top of each other.
The need for this individuality and flexibility within the home means storage solutions need to be adjustable to each personal requirement. The innovative concept +STAGE for example offers the utmost in individuality and consistently embraces the changing demands on the home environment. A place that can be equipped solely to suit personal habits, preferences and interests, which has many flexible planning and integral solutions. This is a highly customisable cabinet which can be laid out to the individual use of the client, from cleverly disguised breakfast cabinets, hiding away the toaster, coffee machine and morning chaos, to something much more dramatic with a bespoke bar cabinet including integrated wine chillers, and glass storage.
Architect Jorge Pensi was guided by a radical idea when he decided to open up the space between the worktop and base cabinets, formally known as classical storage space, to create transparency on the one hand and an area that can be flexibly designed and used for personally arranged accessories like vases, art objects, pots or expensive porcelain. The special detail of the space in between are the tray-like pull-outs invisibly fitted on top of the base cabinets. Thanks to the optional glass walls, these trays are transformed into elegant display cases where even kitchen utensils can be presented effectively.
