Colony — the cooperative gallery, design studio and strategy firm founded by Jean Lin — created CHROMA, a new research-driven, conceptual design for the model residence at One Prospect Park West, the circa 1925 former Knights of Columbus clubhouse that has been transformed into 64 luxury residences designed by WORKSTEAD.
In CHROMA, each room embodies a specific colour and its corresponding historical, emotional and psychological response. For example, the red living room uses deep maroon accents, hand-blown amber glass and natural terracotta to evoke a subtle, yet growing internal energy; the yellow tertiary bedroom elicits elevated spirits and joy and reflects the historical undertones of the building built in the 1920s; and a green primary bedroom uses earthenly forms and highly textured accents to imbue calm despite its the drama its color-filled design creates.
Key pieces include a KWH Bedside Table in the entryway, a custom Colony-designed dining table and Cantilever Bench by Phaedo Design in the Dining Room, custom braided rug by Grain Design & Colony-designed blown glass table by artist Deborah Czeresko in the Living Room, Coal Quilt by Meg Callahan in the Primary Room, Hiroko Takeda’s Silk Mohair Band Throw in the Yellow Room, as well as Balance Wallpaper by Flat Vernacular in the Blue Room.
Colony's Jean Lin explains: “We dreamt up the concept of CHROMA for an ill-fated group show right before the pandemic. I am hopelessly intrigued by the idea of colour as a psychological and emotional tool, combining the physical plane with a psycho-emotional response,”
Lin continues: “What I love about working with forward-thinking clients such as One Prospect Park West, is that a model apartment can become a showcase for evolved ideas, bridging the worlds of gallery exhibits and interior designed homes.”
