PALMARES: WHERE THE ALGARVE MEETS THE ART OF LIVING WELL

There are places in the Algarve that announce themselves immediately: grand entrances, manicured gardens, rows of stately villas and all the familiar theatre of resort life. Palmares is different.

Set just outside of Lagos, Palmares has taken a deliberately low-density approach to development, allowing nature to remain central to the experience. Arriving here, the first impression is of space. Natural light, clean architectural lines and generous private terraces allow the views of Lagos Bay and Meia Praia to provide an extraordinary backdrop. The apartments sit amongst the fairways and vegetation, with generous spaces between buildings. Rather than forming a wall of development, Palmares retains a sense of openness, an increasingly valuable quality in a part of the Algarve that continues to attract international attention.

At the heart of Palmares is the clubhouse, another RCR Arquitectes creation and one of the property's most striking spaces - a building designed around the horizon. Expansive glazing draws the surrounding landscape inside, while the terrace provides an exceptional vantage point over the golf course and Atlantic beyond. Following the sun, the atmosphere changes throughout the day. The architecture has also attracted considerable recognition, with the clubhouse named World's Best Golf Clubhouse 2025 at the World Golf Awards.

And then there is the beach. Meia Praia is a beautiful sandy beach which stretches for around four kilometres and is easily accessible from the resort. The resorts proximity to the beach means that the sea is not an occasional glimpse between buildings, it is a constant presence, whether you are looking out from a terrace, the clubhouse or the golf course.

Aside from being visually impressive, perhaps what makes Palmares particularly compelling - not just as a wonderful holiday destination, but as a property proposition - is its ease. Golf is on the doorstep. Meia Praia beach just a stroll away. Lagos, with its old town, restaurants and marina, is close enough for an evening out, while the Alvor estuary offers another perspective on the surrounding landscape and delicious fresh oysters.

There is also a reassuring sense that the development is still evolving. Signature Apartments II is now under construction, extending the residential offering with a further collection of contemporary homes designed around the same principles of architecture, nature and panoramic views.

Luxury property has changed. For some buyers, the appeal is no longer about having the biggest house or the most elaborate collection of facilities. Increasingly, it is about access to beautiful surroundings, good architecture, privacy and space to breathe.
