On The Big Screen

03.07.23

Katherine Delarno talks to Robin Bogle, founder of AHT Global, to find out more about the growing trend for hi-tech home screens.

State-of-the-art display screens for in-home entertainment are all the rage at present. Think giant flatscreen TVs - with a capital “G” - big enough to provide a transcendent viewing experience. CEOs, entrepreneurs and public figures all enjoy out-sized LED videowalls in their corporate HQs, showrooms, hotels and large venues, and they’ve noticed that the image quality has improved spectacularly in the last couple of years too. For those accustomed to the finer things, they’ve clearly thought, why shouldn’t I have this at home?

In mass-market electronics stores, the biggest TV you can buy is usually 98- to 100-inches measured diagonally. That’s relatively big for a flatscreen TV, but nothing like the quality and user experience of a traditional projector and movie screen that AHT Global have typically installed in the past to create an image large enough to be completely immersive and involving. As interior design has evolved however, projectors no longer fit in the modern home set-up, prized for abundant natural light and large picture windows. Plus, as many HNW homeowners will recount, who wants to sit in a pitch-black, cave-like room just to watch a football game, or the latest blockbuster series on Netflix?

Now, with the newest technologies and major advancements in manufacturing capabilities, you can buy a fabulously large flatscreen display for your home from any of AHT Global’s offices throughout the U.S and South America. Indeed, you can pretty much go as large as you like, as a display measuring 15- or 20-feet diagonally is not uncommon.

“It’s not just about size,” explains Robin. “The image quality of these “Direct View LED” (DVLEDs) displays has to be seen to be believed. Brightness and contrast are almost unlimited, vivid, rich colour is unmatched and resolutions of 4K and 8K are the norm. Some believe image perfection has now also been achieved.”

It’s because of this incredible brightness and vividness, that even viewing in a sunlit room isn’t a problem. They maintain the richness of their colours, tremendous resolution and detail, and almost infinite, inky black contrast. Even to the non-connoisseur’s eye, it’s an immensely satisfying image. The premium of DVLED brands for the home is California company Quantum Media Systems (QMS). Once you see one of AHT Global’s QMS installations, the only thing you will need to consider, is how big do you want to go and how soon do you want it?

But a QMS display doesn’t just excel with movies and streaming. As you would expect from a firm based just south of Hollywood, many AHT Global clients are equally interested in live sports and TV. For this clientele, a QMS display offers the Holy Grail: multiple-image windows. This means you can watch several games or shows simultaneously, sizing and positioning what you are watching on any part of the screen. Most importantly, it’s all easily and conveniently accessed as you see fit by the customised AHT Global control system.

There’s one other big advantage to DVLEDs. These displays were first developed for the commercial world where 24/7/365 operation and a 100,000-hour service life are the absolute minimum. They are supremely capable of displaying video art continuously.

Concludes Robin: “A digital canvas also solves the problem of what to do with your enormous screen when you’re not watching a movie or a show. Some homeowners and interior designers find TVs to be an eyesore. Making your display into a beautiful, emotional, and uplifting fine art canvas solves this problem perfectly.”
