Anchored in the beauty of the natural landscape, the dynamic designer’s work has organically evolved yet stayed true to her core creative vision, keeping Olivia at the helm of an ever-innovating industry.
Bringing the outside in has always been a dominant motivation driving Olivia’s creative pursuits. From a colour palette inspired by Mother Nature to the use of natural materials such as stone, timbers, and linens - the true purpose of this style of intentional design is to create mindfulness by finding beauty in simplicity and natural neutral elements.
Olivia’s original paintings and interior style both exude a sense of refinement whilst simultaneously commanding a sophisticated presence. This enigmatic result is acquired via a process of researching and testing many palette options and design combinations, until a seamless solution is reached. In addition to her carefully curated style, Olivia has incorporated sustainable innovations into her practise; in creating her original large-scale commissions, the artist has utilised new surfaces such as FSC certified Australian poplar board and sourced high gloss finishes including British Paint’s water-based varnish in order to satisfy the ever-growing requirements of environmentally conscious collectors.
Early this year, studying the work of Electric Bowery Architecture and Design Studio, whose renovation of their client’s ocean view home was influenced by the building’s inherent Mediterranean character and elements of Spanish Colonial Style, Olivia was drawn to the contrasting palette, soft and inviting textures, and dreamy interiors of this Los Angeles home (living and games room as pictured). Olivia took note of the contrasting greens and purples and resolved to use this alluring palette for an upcoming project.
Olivia’s client’s wishes were front of mind – working together they envisioned a his/hers shared sitting room in their highlands retreat - a quiet space for respite to curl up with a good book or indulge in a tipple or two – a serene sanctuary with a cosy yet airy feel. Olivia looked to the changing seasons for mood board inspiration. Fast forward a couple of months to April, and Olivia’s overseas travel would take her Yosemite National Park.
Who knew this incredible place, America’s first federally protected National Park, would inspire a new large-scale Skyscape (pictured: Genesis, in situ, 2024) with a similarly harmonious colour range. Reminiscent of the mesmerising hues at dusk, from spectacular viewpoints such as El Capitan, this wonderfully rugged part of the world sealed the deal for the restrained ‘Air’ palette in her client’s mountain home. Playful plum hues, calming sage tones and the powerful energy of chartreuse unite in ‘Genesis’ with a sense of divine completion, leaving little to do other than sit back in comfort and style and enjoy the view.
