Abode2 takes a look around the first stunning One&Only Private Homes completed in the Western Hemisphere in Mexico's secluded and beautiful Riviera Nayarit.

One&Only Mandarina Private Homes is a collection of 55 villas – among the first One&Only Private Homes to own in the world, ranging from $4.4 million to $16.25 million. Harmonizing eloquently with the landscape, the residences feature innovative architecture and contemporary design by Rick Joy, seamlessly integrating with nature by blending indoor and outdoor living. Each home is designed specifically for its location, with rich and varied view lines enhancing the living experience, whether capturing the hillsides fading into jungle canopies or the sun slipping beneath the sea. The designs include infinity-edged pools and gracious outdoor spaces – featuring fire pits and expansive views – for gathering and entertaining.

Each homeowner has a dedicated One Contact, who attends to their every need while overseeing the care of each villa. They will also handle everything from event and activity planning, to concierge and à la carte services, such as pre-ordering groceries and in-villa private chefs. Residents may also take advantage of the One&Only Private Homes Rental Program, with the rentals of their villa represented, marketed and managed by One&Only Resorts. Additionally, homeowners enjoy priority bookings and preferential rates at One&Only Mandarina and all One&Only resorts across the globe.

Residents can choose from a selection of three furniture and finishing packages, highly curated by One&Only and RLH Properties to ensure homes are remarkably designed and furnished upon arrival. Residents will enjoy the exceptional amenities of One&Only Mandarina, as well as those of the Mandarina community, including the Mandarina Polo & Equestrian Club and Canalan Beach Club. All residences will include support staff accommodations and an extremely private experience designed for multi-generational living.

One&Only Mandarina, a new mountain cliff and beachfront resort with 105 free-standing villas and treehouses spread throughout 80 acres of dense jungle, is a dynamic luxury experience designed by Rick Joy Architects (RJA), now Studio Rick Joy. Full reverence and protection of the site drove the vision and inspired stand-alone rooms to be woven between the jungle trees, creating an intentional connection to nature throughout the personal resort experience.

Over the course of several years, RJA collaborated with RLH Properties and architects of record from Mexican firms on varied portions of the expansive development; and built a team of designers from all over the world who worked on the masterplan, architecture and interiors of One&Only Mandarina resort and spa, One&Only Mandarina Private Homes, and Mandarina Polo & Equestrian Club.

The site’s unique and vast landscape was conceptualized and planned by landscape architects Entorno – Taller de Paisaje and Maat Handasa S.C.. RJA’s in-house interior team worked on detailed built-ins and custom furnishings as well as working in close collaboration with CLL. Concept Lighting Lab to provide high quality lighting solutions for the resort and to complete a cohesive atmosphere. Studio Caban consulted for construction implementation of the private home buyer adaptations.

Constructed with minimal elements, concrete, local stone and wood, with the materials and craft mostly locally sourced or Mexican made, the palette is inspired by place. The giant trees with their substantial root system dictated the masterplan, architectural design, and response. This led to a purposeful use of masonry, which is regionally traditional, for the grounded structures’ massing, with stone, stucco and wood beams above. The lighter construction of the Tree House suites allows them to seemingly float and disappear into the environment while providing privacy.

The design intuitively attunes with the views, light, activity, and atmosphere created by the hundreds of hues of greens that stimulate all one’s senses from foreground to horizon. The process was narrated not only by the hundreds of years old trees and vegetation but also the pre-Hispanic history and artifacts on site --- so much so that it became necessary the roads be constructed to divert disturbance, and a great weaving took place throughout the site to preserve as much as possible.

The mountain provide a rich and varied landscape. At some moments you are distinctly elevated, especially on the northern points, on ridges that provide vast views of the abundant agriculture, the jungle, the estuaries and beaches. Then, there’s the Pacific Ocean.

One&Only Mandarina opened on 1^st November 2020.
