The former president and first lady, Barack and Michelle Obama have put down roots in Massachusetts, with the purchase of a gorgeous mansion at Martha’s Vineyard estate. The couple have reputedly bought a 6,892-square-foot estate for $11.75 million, through a trust. The property was originally listed in 2015 for $14.85 million.
Since their time at the White House Michelle and Barack Obama have enjoyed spending down time and holidays at Martha's Vineyard, a quaint Massachusetts island that everyone from the Kennedys to the Clintons has visited.
During the summer the Obamas rented this home and loved it so much that they decided to make it a permanent residence.
The property is situated on 29.3 waterfront acres near the Edgartown Great Pond and has private beaches along its surrounding shore. The impressive estate, which was built in 2001, features seven bedrooms, eight and a half bathrooms, and a powder room. It also boasts an elegant master suite complete with a fireplace, as well as two guest wings, a double detached garage, a barn, a sun deck, boathouse, and a pool. The exterior of the property is finished in weathered shingle, and the interior is traditional in style, with an all-white kitchen, vaulted ceilings, and a stone fireplace. The dining room is circular, with windows all around showcasing views of the meticulously landscaped gardens.
The Obamas also have a home two miles from the White House in Kalorama, which has been home to Woodrow Wilson, William Taft, and Franklin D. Roosevelt.
