Dr Angela Tabiri, known as the "Maths Queen" of Ghana, is a pioneering mathematician dedicated to mentoring African girls in STEM. In 2024, she became the first African to win The Big Internet Math Off, a global competition celebrating engaging mathematicians.
Initially set on studying business, Dr Tabiri ended up pursuing mathematics and developed a passion for quantum algebra. She earned her PhD from the University of Glasgow, where the film Hidden Figures inspired her to persist in her career.
She now works at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in Ghana, managing the Girls in Mathematical Sciences Programme to support secondary school girls and running FemAfricMaths, a non-profit offering lessons and role models in math.
Dr Tabiri is also deeply involved in promoting quantum science in Africa. She supports Ghana's successful proposal for 2025 to be the UN's International Year of Quantum Science and Technology and is planning initiatives like a quantum road show and Quantum Hackathon to prepare African youth for future technological revolutions.
Her mission is to break gender stereotypes, provide educational opportunities for underprivileged girls, and position Africa’s growing youth population for success in the quantum age.
