The home of former US President John F. Kennedy has been sold for $4.2 million.
The townhouse was originally constructed in the 1800s and sits at 4,659 square feet and is across four-stories. The property is located close to parks and the boutique restaurants of Georgetown, Washington, D.C. The façade is red brick with statements black shutters and iron railings, fronting on to a traditional cobblestone street.
According to the home's listing, the property underwent a complete renovation that was led by the late architect Richard Foster in 2007. Foster is best remembered for his collaborative work with Phillip Johnson, when the pair worked on the Lincoln Center of the Performing Arts in New York. The newly styled home has three bedrooms, with the master bedroom including a fireplace, an en-suite bathroom and has underfloor heating throughout. The house also has another full white marble family bathroom and a wood panelled library. The kitchen is fully equipped in a modern style incorporating stainless steel refrigerator and a sleek breakfast bar.
The property also boasts an attached garage and a tastefully decorated outside terrace with modern garden furnishings and allowing the owner a panoramic view of the beautiful surroundings. Michael Rankin, the realtor form TTR Sotheby’s International Realty, said the new buyers was ‘impressed by the exterior presence of the house as well as the interior rooms with their extraordinary scale, light and views,” adding, “The renovation was exceptional as well. What’s not to love about this one?”
J.F.K resisted in the house between 1949 and 1951 whilst he served in the House of Representatives according to the listing agents. He lived in the property with his sister, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, and it is the property he lived in when he met his future wife Jackie Onassis. 10 years after leaving the property Kennedy was voted to the Office of President of the United States of America and served until his assassination in November 1963.
Many of the Kenndy’s former residents have been sold or listed over the last few years. The Palm Beach, Florida property known as the Kennedy’s ‘Winter White House’ sold for $31 million in 2015. In May this year Jackie’s New York childhood home in East Hampton has been listed for $7.5 million. The Red Gate Farm estate was listed by Caroline Kennedy in June of 2019, located in Martha’s Vineyard and owned last owned by Caroline’s mother, Jackie.
Property records show that the recent seller of the townhouse originally bought the property for $4.2 million back in 2008. Hitting the market in February of 2020 the property was originally listed for $4.675 million. In mid-September, the asking price was cut to $4.45, finally selling for $4.2 million on 30th November, the same amount as the seller originally bought the property for.
