Abode2 catches up with Heidi Steck, to find out how the visionary German/South African designer, has left her mark in the world of design, fashion and luxury resort wear
Heidi embarked on a global journey that would shape her into the designer she is today. At the age of six, she left her native South Africa and ventured to Monaco and then London, where she spent her formative years. It was in London that she honed her skills, graduating from the renowned Inchabald School of Design in London.
At 21, Heidi returned to her South African roots, kickstarting her career at the architecture and design company SAOTA, based in Cape Town. Eager to broaden her horizons within South Africa and across the continent, she later joined MEHA, an International Design firm, where she undertook projects in diverse locales such as Accra in Ghana and Lagos in Nigeria.
Her designs are influenced by her multicultural background and extensive travels over the last 17 years, she has absorbed the essence of these glamorous, combined with her travels through Africa's diverse beauty, each of which has left its mark on her latest collection.
Introducing the exquisite Bushwillow Collection, a bushwillow seed collection comprising of earrings, pendants and cufflinks. Crafted from sterling silver & gold, these captivating earrings encapsulate the essence of Africa's natural beauty, making a bold and elegant statement. Heidi draws inspiration from Africa's vast bushveld landscapes and rich biodiversity, infusing her designs with a deep appreciation for nature's wonders.
Each piece meticulously replicates the bushwillow seed, capturing its organic contours and delicate texture with expert attention to detail. These pieces are not merely jewellery; they carry the story of Africa's beauty and resilience.
In addition to Heidi Steck’s Bushwillow Collection, Heidi also has a luxury Resort Wear Brand, representing her love for kaftans through her journeys in North Africa, filled with inspiration from diverse cultures.

Internationally and locally best known for her iconic hand-painted life sized fiberglass Rhino and Baby Elephant Sculptures and bought by Sir. Richard Branson for his Mont Rochelle Hotel; creating the awareness of Rhino poaching in South Africa
