Queen Ethelburga’s recently welcomed back alumna Jess Greenwood to inspire Sixth Form students with her journey from school to a year-long placement at Disney.
Jess, who is currently completing her placement as part of her studies at the University of Liverpool, shared how she was selected from over 2,500 applicants for her dream role. She spoke about the application process, highlighting the importance of persistence, creativity, and effective self-presentation.
During the talk, Jess encouraged students to embrace creative subjects and take part in extracurricular activities, explaining how leadership roles, community projects, and other experiences outside the classroom can strengthen a CV and prepare students for competitive careers.
She also emphasised the value of university placements, noting that opportunities such as internships and work placements provide practical experience that gives students a real-world edge.
Students left the session feeling motivated and equipped with practical advice for building successful Sixth Form careers. Jess’s story served as a reminder that with passion, creativity, and hard work, dream opportunities—like a placement at Disney—are achievable.

Queen Ethelburga’s College offers GCSE, A Level, and BTEC programmes, alongside specialist pathways in sports and performing arts. Prospective students and families can experience the school via private tours or upcoming Open Days.
