upGrad, the Indian edtech company, is accelerating its regional expansion across Asia and the Middle East, aiming to capture growing demand for online higher education in markets where U.S. and U.K. universities are seeing a decline in popularity among international students.
As part of its strategy, upGrad currently collaborates with around 80 universities across 10 countries, offering primarily online MBA and executive programs. The platform provides students with flexible, tech-driven learning experiences designed to meet the needs of working professionals and international learners seeking global credentials without relocating.
Looking ahead, upGrad is exploring further partnerships in countries including Vietnam, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, signalling its intention to broaden its presence in emerging education markets. By leveraging technology, localised content, and global collaborations, the company aims to make high-quality education more accessible and affordable for students across the region.
This expansion reflects a broader trend in international education, where online learning platforms are increasingly stepping in to fill the gap left by traditional universities facing rising costs, visa challenges, and shifting student preferences. For upGrad, the move represents both a growth opportunity and a strategic bet on the future of cross-border, technology-enabled higher education.
