Pantone has released its long-awaited colour of the year for 2021. The prize going to the pairing of Pantone 17-5104 Ultimate Gray with Pantone 13-0647. The colour combination is said to convey ‘a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring an uplifting’.
The announcement goes on to say the coupling although two independent colours, when together they ‘highlight how different elements come together to support one another’. Whilst being ‘practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic’, the union of colours was chosen due to the fact that together they ‘encapsulate deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the promise of something sunny and friendly’. This colour pairing reflects the mood of and feeling we all want to take into the new year.
Now we all know the colours we should be using in our homes; we can show you how to use them in a range of styled homes:
Some may think a modern pairing may not work in a more traditional styled home; however, this could not be further from the truth. There need be any fear of brining the modern colours into the country design as Buttermere House shows. Displaying how Pantones colour of the year can be tastefully incorporated into multiple rooms. The addition of the colour of the year has bought a fresh and bright feel to the home without losing the comforting, traditional and country house style.

The combination of two juxtaposing colours that compliment and enhance one another naturally lends itself to fusion styled living. By bringing two different styles together, much like the colour choice, both styles support each other’s strengths. The Bacon Factory is the perfect example of a style fusion property to display the colour of the year combination. The Ultimate Grey highlights the industrialized features that nod to the history of the building, whilst the bright 13-0647 yellow give the property the inviting warmth of a home.

At the opposite end of the scale is the ultra-modern homes, and even here the colour of the year coupling adds to the trendy atmosphere of modern homes. Plum Tree Mews is a modern hideaway home on Streatham Common that with the addition of the colour of the year duo cements its ‘on trend’ and fresh ambience. With an abundance of natural light picked out by the 13-0647 yellow really pops in the room, and the Ultimate Grey acts as the perfect background buffer to the rays of bright light.
