How to make your bedroom a sensory delight

By Pippa, owner of Intimate Spaces

We all know how powerful the senses can be: a fragrance can unlock a forgotten memory, the briefest of touches can feel electric, the right sounds take you away from the present moment. As interior designers specialising in creating beautiful erotic and sensual adult playrooms, we know how to harness the power of the senses.

Sight is the most dominant sense in humans. In fact, we perceive up to 80% of all impressions by means of our sight, and its role in shaping our mood and emotions is central to transforming a space into an erotic, sensual one.

It’s well-known individual colours can evoke different feelings and responses, however it’s more nuanced than that, because we all have individual responses to different colour groups. Clues as to what colours make you feel most comfortable can be found in different areas of your life – look at your wardrobe or shoe collection for example. We have developed a detailed colour psychology questionnaire to help our clients discover which colours to bring into their intimate space. Another important component is lighting, simply put it ‘sets the scene’. Dimmer switches, focus lighting and colour changes all shape atmosphere. Simply think how a night club feels when the lights are low.  Playing with form, shapes and patterns in furniture and furnishings can add subtle suggestiveness whilst artwork can act as erotica to stimulate and arouse.

Sound affects our well-being and comfort. A room with poor acoustics is instantly noticeable and jarring. Introducing soundproofing materials, such as carpets, curtains, and acoustic panels will reduce unwanted noise and create a cocooned environment. We love installing invisible speakers that are plastered into the walls, with the sub woofers under the bed. Connect your favourite playlist and let the music transport you. Soundscapes, such as music, nature sounds, or white noise can enhance the mood and create a sensual backdrop.

Smell is our sense that particularly triggers memories, emotions, and associations. Use aromatherapy, such as candles, diffusers, or sprays to infuse your room with fragrances. Natural materials, such as wood, leather, plants, or flowers add subtle layers of scent and can be both evocative and sensual. We can work with a scent specialist to help our clients find and create fragrances that are sensual and arousing for them.

Touch, the most intimate sense of all, connects us with ourselves and others. The right touch can be electric, and the right or wrong textures and fabrics can act in the same way. Materials that are smooth, silky, or fluffy can be used to create a tactile sensation that excites.  We choose textures, fabrics and finishes carefully to stimulate feel-good hormones, such as dopamine and serotonin and heighten pleasure.

As interior designers we understand how to combine all these elements. Channelling the power of the senses can create uniquely erotic spaces that are sensual, beautiful, and meaningful. Our interior design schemes are created to stimulate the senses, and to make you feel alive, reflect your identity, and allow you to express your emotions.

We create an atmosphere that seduces and delights with bespoke furniture and equipment, leaving you and your partner craving for more. And the best part? We take care of everything - from design and project management to build and installation. You don't have to worry about a thing, except maybe what you'll wear in your new room.

So, if you're ready to reignite passion, to escape the ordinary and embrace the extraordinary, let Intimate Spaces create a world of pleasure and desire just for you.
