Greener Future

11.11.21

The luxury industry, and particularly the real estate industry, has often suffered from a bad reputation regarding its environmental impact. For some time, and especially with the awareness of the consequences of global warming on the planet, the younger generations, including the young HNWI, are changing their behaviour and turn to eco-responsible practices. This includes their housing. As a result, major developers, architects and designers have the environmental effects very much in mind, and the industry is making a change.

In the field of real estate, buyers are choosing to look for environmentally friendly options, turning to ecological homes that use non-toxic materials for construction, that allow for savings in heating and electricity and whose negative impact on the environment is reduced. As for ultra-luxury real estate, it is difficult to get rid of the image of large villas that consume a lot of energy and are not always in harmony with the surrounding environment. However, luxury real estate also plays its part in preserving the environment.

The younger generations of affluent people have become aware of the important issues at stake in the environmental field. So much so that they are willing to pay the price for high-end homes that are also sustainable. To reduce one's ecological footprint on the planet, housing is certainly the first area in which everyone must make an effort, and this does not necessarily mean living in a smaller place. Having a "green" luxury home is no longer a dream, it is a reality.

Today, the demand for high-end and responsible real estate is exploding and real estate professionals do not hesitate to play with materials, natural light, recycling or even plants to create eco-friendly luxury homes in perfect harmony with the landscape.

As the perfect example, Telegraph Cottage in Surrey is not only an outstanding newly built mansion with fantastic amenities, it also has extensive green credentials.

Set within a small, private, gated development of 4.72 acres, (formerly the residence of General Eisenhower during World War II) with only five other detached houses, this spectacular designed neo-Georgian detached house, has accommodation of approximately 12,476 square feet.

Telegraph Cottage includes seven very generous bedroom suites, four stunning reception rooms including an orangery and a fabulous double height reception hall with a lift to all levels and staff quarters.

Leisure facilities include a 35 foot long swimming pool, cinema room and gym and there is also a large forecourt and garaging for three cars.

Located close to Coombe golf club and within walking distance of Richmond Park, Knightsbridge is approximately 8 miles away with Heathrow and Gatwick airports easily accessible via the M25 motorway.

However, it is the impressive newly built home’s green credentials which really make it exceptional - the property includes a heat source recovery system, cavity insulated walls and roof voids and a rain water harvesting system which can be used to irrigate the gardens and the property’s washrooms.

Shaun Drummond, Residential Director and General Manager commented: “This home is truly outstanding for its grand size, history and excellent amenities. However, as COP26 in Glasgow comes to an end, all eyes are turning to how we can make our homes greener for the future. Telegraph Cottage would suit an eco-conscious home owner who is looking to have a greener lifestyle and reduce their carbon footprint further over the coming years.”
