In light of the recent fuel crisis, luxury property buying consultancy, AWS Prime has said it predicts electrical car charging points – along with a raft of other more self-sufficiency home features – are going to become a must-have for HNW property buyers.
Electric cars have been rapidly growing in popularity year after a year over the last decade. Mainly driven by the environmental benefits they have over traditional fossil fuel powered cars, almost every car manufacturer has their own hybrid and pure electric models. When first realised, electric cars were seen as expensive and the main concern for potential buyers was the low millage range mixed with the lack of changing ports. Many were concerned that the car where impractical as, even with a full charge the cars would not have enough power to reach their destination and there were very few public charging points anywhere in the country. However, as the technology has developed, electric cars now have a larger millage per charge and there are more and more public charging points.
The UK government have invested in a large infrastructure of charging points to encourgange more and more of us to swich to electric cars, and they are currently on course to ban the sale of new cars and vans powered entirely by petrol and diesel by 2030, and to ban the sale of new hybrid vehicles by 2035. From then onwards, new cars and vans sold in the UK must be fully electric.
This push to electric cars has been even more prevalent across the UK with the recent ‘fuel crisis’, many have seen this as the final push to invest in a new electric vehicle, this new form of transport has an effect of features buyer now look for in their homes. AWS Prime recently helped a tech billionaire client buy a property on Macaulay Road in Clapham Old Town; an area known for its large period houses and generous gardens.
Alex Woodleigh-Smith, Managing Director, comments: “The interesting things is that our client is not uncommon; they wanted a period property, but also all the modern features to ensure they’re not hamstrung by crisis after crisis. Whilst schools and good transport links were important to them, an electrical car charging point was a must-have. Despite London having an array of historic housing stock, period homes and modern sustainable features is no-longer and ‘either / or’. After a tenacious search with a budget of £8m, we secured their new home; a detached 5,250 square foot Victorian villa, on the best road in Clapham Old Town, completely off market with a 120 foot south west facing garden
Now they have moved in, we have helped managed the development of some enhancements to the home including a swimming pool, pool house complete with sauna, and an incredible new landscaping scheme.”
As we all upgrade our vehicles, having the capacity and facilities to charge them is bound to become a stapple feature for any luxury home, weather planned in a new build or added on to a more traditional home, a charging point will soon be a ‘must have’ at home.
