Former Ford Family Estate Will Be the Most Expensive Hamptons Listing

The 42-acre property on Long Island includes nearly a quarter mile of ocean frontage.

Move over Los Angeles, New York state just got a nine-figure listing to rival the slate of $100 million-plus mega-mansions hitting the market this summer in La La Land.

Fordune, a lavish European-style estate built by Henry Ford II—grandson of the famed automaker—in Southampton, will soon hit the market for $175 million, making it the most expensive home on the market in New York and  one of the priciest on the East Coast, according to listing brokerage Bespoke Real Estate. The new listing surpasses a $150 million beachfront property with multiple houses and putting greens that went on the market in Southampton last month.

The current owner is Brenda Earl, a former partner at equity fund Zweig-Dimenna. She bought the property through a private limited liability company in 2002 for around $22 million, according to property records.

Ms. Earl’s roughly 20,000-square-foot main house has 12 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms and sits on the largest Atlantic Ocean frontage in the Hamptons at nearly a quarter of a mile, according to the listing agents. The manor sits on 42 acres, which encompass a 60-foot pool, spa, tennis and basketball courts, greenhouse and outdoor kitchen.

The owner carried out an extensive renovation in 2008, though she kept many of the original features, including molded ceilings, traditional chandeliers, Italian marble fireplaces and antique bathroom fixtures, according to the brokerage. The white stucco home opens into a palatial entrance with a sweeping staircase and views to the grounds beyond. The home has a 48-foot living room, large chef’s kitchen, and library and staff quarters.
