Inspirational photographer, Lorraine Finney talks us through her journey to create striking photographic artwork

Lorraine Finney became a professional photographer when her children left home. Seeking a new personal challenge, she embarked on a two year course with The Institute of Photography building on her long standing interest in the media. She graduated in 2017, and established her website on International Women’s Day, 2018.

Following this, she achieved her Licentiateship with The Society of International Nature and Wildlife Photography, is Chair of her local camera club and has completed her first solo exhibition this year.

Lorraine’s fascination with the natural world led her to concentrate on land and seascapes and her search for perfection, to use fine art photography to “bring your walls to life”.

Recognition from her peers soon followed with awards for individual images and she was shortlisted for Landscape Photographer of the Year. “Internationally renowned landscape photographer Charlie Waite says: “Lorraine Finney is a highly talented photographer and one that collectors and lovers of photography should keep a very close eye on”.

Lorraine’s mission is to bring walls to life by capturing the magical moments in time that the natural world provides, whether it’s the land, sea and sky or intimate glimpses of the world around us.

“I’m never more at home than when immersed in the landscape as dawn breaks or the setting sun paints the sky, waiting for the perfect moment to capture the emotional bond I have with the beauty before me. Often alone with nature I use mindfulness as I strive to translate the same emotional connection to the image on your wall, using a range of media to suit every home and business space.

This has led Lorraine to work with Interior designers by providing statement pieces of fine art photography which complement their work. Whether it’s framed artwork using archival fine art paper, float mounted, decal edged and art glass as used by museums to protect their valuable exhibits, or prints on aluminium ready to hang, quality is consistently excellent. Editions are limited and prints signed ensuring the magic and uniqueness of the image is preserved.

When I began my journey, I couldn’t imagine holding a solo exhibition or the pleasure of clients investing in and enjoying my art on their walls. I have been fortunate to capture images with an emotional connection for the buyer. The recent corona lockdown highlighted how important the outside world is to so many people, so my new goal is to bring the peace, beauty and renewal of nature to your walls.

Equally unexpected has been the reward of working with fellow creatives, developing links with suppliers and interior designers. I faced many challenges, but overcame them all.

I would encourage everyone to follow their dreams and fight their fears, I never thought my passion for photography would bring so much satisfaction.
